Fight a Photo Radar Ticket in Calgary
Registered-owner photo radar and red-light camera notices are prosecuted against the owner under Traffic Safety Act s.160. The current demerit schedule assigns no points for an owner conviction under that provision. That is not a promise about any insurer's underwriting, and a roadside driver ticket is different.

Calgary registered-owner camera notices
The current Demerit Point Program and Service of Documents Regulation, Schedule 1 does not list an owner contravention under Traffic Safety Act s.160. That legal point is not a guarantee about any insurer's underwriting, premium, or treatment of a particular record. A separate roadside ticket issued to an identified driver needs a different review.
This guide concerns automated notices mailed to a registered owner under Traffic Safety Act s.160(1), including photo radar speeding and red-light cameras. Edmonton explains owner liability. A roadside ticket issued to the driver needs a different review.
Calgary zones and approved exceptions
Alberta's default policy from April 1, 2025 restricts automated speed enforcement to school, playground and construction zones, with a process for approved exceptions. Red-light cameras have separate site rules. Check the site, offence type and approval that applied on the offence date. Read the provincial photo radar rules.
The March 2026 police report confirms that five Calgary intersection sites had approval to resume speed-on-green enforcement. Check the actual approval and offence date; do not assume a speed-on-green notice is invalid. Read the CPS exemption update.
Calgary's playground zones are 30 km/h from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day of the year. Check the signs at the location. Read Calgary's playground-zone guidance.
March 2026 fine schedule
Selected Alberta traffic fine increases took effect on March 13, 2026. The offence date determines which schedule applies. CPS explains the effective date.
Alberta's current standard speeding table lists $228 for 20 km/h over and $324 for 30 km/h over, including the 20% victim surcharge. Check the official speeding table. For a red-light notice, use the exact allegation and fine shown on the ticket, not the speeding table. Government fines are separate from Fabsy's service fee.
Keep reissued notices and mailing records
CPS says it is reissuing camera tickets affected by the postal disruption, with an explanatory letter. Keep that letter and the envelope. The mailing certificate, service method and procedural history need review; late receipt alone does not establish an invalid ticket. Read CPS's reissued-ticket notice.
What Fabsy checks in disclosure
- The vehicle and plate in the images match the notice.
- The site was permitted, or had an approved exception, for the offence and date. Speed and red-light rules are checked separately.
- The posted zone hours and any special signs applied at the recorded time.
- The evidence supports workers being present if a doubled construction fine was applied.
- Related notices are checked against the municipality's applicable duplicate-notice policy.
- The certificate's mailing date and the applicable service requirements are checked.
- Ownership on the offence date is checked against any sale or theft records.
- Available operator logs and device testing or calibration records support the allegation.
Missing evidence is a reason to ask for it, not proof that the ticket is invalid. A supported concern becomes a fact-specific request to the Crown; it does not promise a reduction or withdrawal.
